About the Artisan: Kalpana Handicrafts was established in 2006 in West Bengal’s Medinipur Village. The organisation works with women, mostly over the age of 40, to make beautiful wooden collage carved paintings with multiple natural woods procured from across the world. They have been inspired by Mysore’s inlay work.
About the Craft: Wood Collage Carving is a craft that involves the seasoning of natural wood from Africa, Mayalsia, New Zealand and many parts of India. These wooden pieces come in many different colours and are arranged into an inlay puzzle like formation inspired by rural life and nature.
