About the Artist: Mukul Joshi comes from a Phad painting family. He started doing Pichwai paintings in 2016. Hailing from an artist family, Mukul believes that art is in his blood. He was born and raised in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. His brother is a National Award-winning artist and a gold medalist for the UNESCO Award. There are currently 13 members working with him and 50% are women.
About the Craft : Pichwai is a form of art that originated over 400 years ago in the temple town of Nathdwara near Udaipur in Rajasthan. The word pichwai, literally translates to that which hangs at the back and refers to a unique form of pictorial textiles made specifically for use as backdrops in the shrines of Shrinathji. Pichwai art is now found in temples of the region and is purchased by art connoisseurs and devotees for display in their homes and home temples.
