About the Craft :: The heart of Dhurrie weaving lies in the centre of Mirzapur in Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh, known to bring high quality hand-knotted carpets with nearly 400 knots per square inch! The carpet weaving centers across Varanasi and Bhadohi were set up by a Persian master weaver in the 17th century. The beautiful yet strenuous process comprises several steps, including dyeing, designing and weaving, thus embodying various skill sets in one product. These carpets were mostly based on the Persian designs but due to changing times now, modern patterned carpets are also manufactured.
