Description

  • About Craft: Dhokra is India’s prehistoric art form of lost wax casting. It means casting of bell metal through a lost wax process. During the process, the vacuum created between the core and the clay layer is filled with molten metal, which is then allowed to cool down and solidify after it vaporizes. The outer clay mould is cracked open, revealing the beauty of the final sculpture. Dhokra is an alloy of nickel, brass and zinc. When these three are mixed in the appropriate proportion it gives an antique look.
  • About Organization: ?Anwesha Tribal Arts & Crafts is a non-government organization dedicated to the development of handicrafts established in 1989 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It was founded as an association of trained social workers and focused initially on the promotion of social work practice in Odisha. As a result of their outreach, they began working with tribal and traditional craft communities, providing training, infrastructural and management support. They are supporting over 300 women at the moment.
  • In the AMEX Dastkar AT HOME Project, Puneet Kaushik worked to develop contemporary ranges of Dhokra and sheet metal table-top accessories, while retaining the rich cultural heritage of tribal traditions.
