Description
About the Craft and Artisan: A signature craft and the beauty representing Kashmir’s intricacies, crewel embroidery is characterized heavily by imagery pertaining to nature, flower patterns, and vines across carpets, cushions, tapestries, and clothing. The designs often range from Persian to French, from Chinar leaves to flowers and many colorful and bright variants of scenes from Kashmir.
Abdul Rashid has been a practicing craftsman for 47 years in the field of Kashmiri chain stitch rugs and carpets. Having learned the art from his father, a master craftsman himself, he now supports and works with more than 44 artists. His designs range from floral patterns to animals and human forms.
